A vicious fire tore through Park Dean Holiday Park on Hayling Island last night, transforming the peaceful holiday site into a scene resembling a war zone.
Four fire crews from Hayling Island, Havant, Cosham, and Portchester responded urgently to the fierce caravan blaze at the award-winning holiday park located on Manor Road. Hampshire Fire & Rescue were called just after 9pm on Sunday evening to tackle the fast-spreading inferno.
The fire rapidly spread among the closely packed tourist units, causing gas cylinders to explode and increasing the danger faced by firefighters. It took nearly three hours for crews to bring the blaze under control.
One man was hospitalised after sustaining injuries during the fire. Firefighters encountered difficulties due to an inadequate hydrant system on site, which forced them to lay hoses from Manor Way across the main road to combat the flames.
A static home valued at approximately £30,000 was completely destroyed, while two other homes suffered external damage. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus worked bravely to prevent the fire from spreading further across the park.
Park managers observed the incident but declined to comment, stating their priority was to support upset guests. The park remains closed as police and emergency services maintain a significant presence while investigations continue.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. Officers from the Police Arson and Fire Investigation Taskforce are collaborating with fire service teams to determine the origin of the blaze.
Guest Mandy Jones described the harrowing scene, saying, “It looked like a war zone – it was very frightening, especially for our children and pets. There were loud explosions and huge flames towering over the site.”
More than 20 emergency calls led to a rapid response involving four fire engines and a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) from South Central Ambulance Service. The chaotic scene shocked both visitors and local residents.
