Oxford Road in Reading was locked down early this morning after police responded to a knife-related incident. Officers were called at 4.50am following reports of a disturbance near Lloyds Pharmacy.
Armed police and emergency services quickly arrived at the scene where several individuals were found in possession of knives. As a safety measure, police sealed off Oxford Road, causing disruption for local drivers.
Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. Paramedics were on standby but did not need to treat anyone at the scene. By 11am, police confirmed that nine people had been arrested in connection with public order and weapons offences. All suspects remain in custody.
A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said paramedics were prepared to respond but could not provide further details. Police investigations are ongoing.
Motorists are advised to avoid Oxford Road until further notice while police continue their inquiries.
