Police are investigating a serious assault on a woman at Southsea Common in Portsmouth. The attack occurred between 9pm and 11:40pm on August 3, near Clarence Parade.
The South Central Ambulance Service contacted police after finding a 40-year-old woman with serious injuries. She suffered a possible fractured cheekbone and bruising on her face, arms, legs, and back. The victim was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of serious assault and was further detained on suspicion of rape. Following questioning, he was released under investigation while inquiries continue.
The suspect, who has no fixed address, also faces additional charges including actual bodily harm, kidnap with intent to commit a sexual offence, and threats to kill in Eastleigh. He remains in custody and is due to appear at Southampton Youth Remand Court on August 10.
