Jason Burnett, 27, a DJ from Chatham, has been charged with the murder of 55-year-old Lesley Spearing after she was fatally stabbed at her home in Miers Court Road, Rainham.

Kent Police responded to the incident on Thursday, 10 October 2019, at 8:32pm. Despite the efforts of officers and the South East Coast Ambulance Service, Lesley Spearing was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination confirmed that Lesley died from a stab wound.

Burnett was arrested shortly after the incident on Rainham High Street. He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court wearing a grey prison-issue sweatshirt. No application for bail was made, and the case was committed to Maidstone Crown Court for trial.

The police’s Serious Crime Directorate is leading the investigation into the murder.

Jason Burnett was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, 14 October 2019.
