Detectives have charged a man with murder after a fatal bottle attack in Margate. At 2am on Saturday 12 October 2019, Kent Police responded to a disturbance at a home on Sandhurst Place where a man had been seriously injured after being attacked with a broken bottle.

Emergency services, including the South East Coast Ambulance Service, rushed to the scene. Tragically, 44-year-old Mark Miles was pronounced dead at the property.

Officers arrested 23-year-old Richard McAuley of Northdown Road nearby and took him into custody. Both men were known to each other.

Following a thorough investigation by Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate detectives, the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised a murder charge against McAuley. He is also charged with assaulting a woman during the same incident, although she was not seriously hurt.

Richard McAuley is due to appear at Medway Magistrates Court on Monday 14 October.
