Tragedy struck Aldershot on the evening of Tuesday, November 8, when two teenage girls were fatally struck by a black Ford Focus ST while out running on Queens Avenue.
The fatal collision occurred shortly after 7:10pm. Witnesses reported that the two girls were hit by the car and thrown violently, with one reportedly hitting the windscreen and sustaining severe injuries. Despite the rapid emergency response, both girls died at the scene.
The black Ford Focus ST was later removed from the scene under police escort just after midnight. Queens Avenue remained closed into the early hours as investigators conducted a thorough examination of the area amid foul weather conditions.
A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody. Authorities have appealed for witnesses to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation. Specialist officers are providing support to the devastated families affected by this tragic event.
A spokeswoman for South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed that crews arrived shortly after 7:11pm, deploying two ambulances, two rapid response paramedics, and an air ambulance which landed on a nearby army sports field. She stated, “Despite our best efforts, the teenagers succumbed to their serious injuries at the scene.”
