East Surrey Hospital in Redhill experienced a significant fire this afternoon after three ambulances burst into flames, sending thick black smoke into the sky. Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after 2:15pm to combat the blaze.
The fire, which began with the ambulances, has spread to part of the hospital building. Surrey Fire and Rescue teams are actively working to control the situation. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
Surrey Police are present at the scene to assist with the emergency response. Meanwhile, the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) confirmed that patients are being redirected to neighbouring hospitals as a precaution due to the incident.
A SECAmb spokeswoman stated: “SECAmb will be taking patients to neighbouring hospitals, depending on patient location, medical condition and hospital capacity. This includes Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath and others.”
