The M20 motorway is completely closed eastbound between junction 1 (M25) and junction 2 (Wrotham) after a serious collision involving a van and a heavy goods vehicle (HGV).
The westbound carriageway is also blocked between the same junctions while an air ambulance attends the scene.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:47 pm on Friday 11 November, with Kent Police leading the emergency response. All emergency services, including the air ambulance, rushed to the location to provide assistance.
Kent Police confirmed that two men involved in the collision have been treated for injuries and are being transferred to hospital for further medical care.
“At around 1.45 pm on Friday 11 November, Kent Police was called to a collision involving a van and a lorry on the coastbound carriageway of the M20 between junctions 1 and 2. Officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service are at the scene where two men have been treated for injuries and are being taken to hospital for further medical attention. Both carriageways are currently closed while emergency services deal with the incident. The London-bound carriageway will be reopened once the air ambulance has departed,” a Kent Police spokesperson said.
National Highways teams are managing traffic around the incident. Westbound vehicles are being held until the air ambulance leaves the scene. Drivers caught in the eastbound traffic jam are advised to remain in place and follow police instructions.
No confirmed reopening time has been announced yet. Motorists are advised to avoid the M20 and use the M26 as an alternative route. Expect heavy delays on the M25 near junction 3 and on the M20 at junction 1 due to the closures.
