A radiation scare in Dartford triggered an emergency response in the early hours of Tuesday 24 April after a man fell ill, prompting a radiation alert.
Kent Police were called at 2:30am following a report from South East Coast Ambulance Service about a medical emergency in Blake Gardens, Dartford. Officers quickly arrived to assist paramedics and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said, “Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to Blake Gardens in Dartford to test for a possible radiation leak after a man became ill. He was taken to hospital by SECAmb paramedics. Four fire engines and a hazardous materials unit arrived at the scene. Firefighters decked out in gas-tight suits conducted thorough radiation checks throughout the property.”
No sources of radiation were found during the investigation, and officials confirmed there is no risk to the public. Kent Police remained at the scene while the checks were carried out.
South East Coast Ambulance Service has been contacted for further details regarding the man’s condition.
