The M2 motorway in Kent is currently closed eastbound between Junctions 5 and 6 after a serious crash left two people trapped inside an overturned car. Emergency services are on scene, and drivers should expect delays of at least 30 minutes stretching for miles.

The closure has caused significant traffic congestion, with motorists being forced to exit at Junction 5. Authorities have set up an official diversion route marked by black circle signs to help drivers navigate around the closure.

The recommended diversion is as follows: take the A249 southbound to Junction 7 of the M20, then join the M20 eastbound towards the coast. Exit at Junction 8, head eastbound on the A20 to Charing, take the A252 Faversham Road eastbound, and finally turn left onto the A251 northbound to rejoin the M2 at Junction 6.

Kent Fire and Rescue, paramedics, and police responded swiftly to the incident. An off-duty doctor and an off-duty police officer were already present at the scene, providing emergency first aid to the trapped individuals. Fire crews used hydraulic cutters to remove a B-post and a door from the vehicle, enabling them to free the two casualties.

Both victims were carefully evacuated using longboards and transferred to the South East Coast Ambulance Service for urgent medical treatment.

Police have warned that the M2 eastbound closure could last for several hours while the scene is cleared. Motorists are advised to follow the diversion signs and prepare for heavy traffic delays.

Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
