Kent Fire and Rescue Service and Kent Police rushed to the scene following a serious collision between a van and a heavy goods vehicle on the London-bound M20 motorway.

The crash occurred in the early hours of the morning between junctions 9 and 8. Firefighters demonstrated heroic efforts by using hydraulic cutters to remove the van’s door and create enough space to free the trapped driver.

The casualty, believed to be a Polish national, was carefully rescued from the wreckage and handed over to paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service for medical attention.

The London-bound lane of the M20 remained closed until just before 5am while police conducted their investigation and emergency crews completed the clean-up and vehicle recovery operations.

Fortunately, no delays were reported in the surrounding area following the incident.
