A lorry overturned on the busy Cowstead Corner roundabout along the A249 in Sheppey early on Friday morning, August 23, 2024, sending one person to hospital.
Emergency services, including fire engines and ambulance crews, arrived at the scene following the crash at around 6:30am. The South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed that one individual was treated at the site before being taken to Medway Maritime Hospital. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service deployed two fire engines to assist Kent Police at the location.
The overturned heavy goods vehicle caused major traffic delays, with gridlock reported on both the A249 and the A2500 Lower Road. Highway officers are currently working to recover the lorry, and the road closure is expected to remain in place until at least 2pm. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid the affected area.
Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in the incident. Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the lorry overturning.
