Emergency services rushed to Grande Parade, Brighton, just after midnight on Friday following reports of an attack involving an unknown substance.
A man and woman were targeted inside a residential property, prompting a rapid response from Sussex Police and firefighters.
Sussex Police called in East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service after reports indicated the attack involved ammonia. Paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service were also present at the scene.
Authorities quickly closed the road as a safety precaution, diverting traffic while emergency crews secured the area.
The road remained closed for approximately an hour as teams worked to make the area safe. The condition of the victims is currently unknown, with Sussex Police continuing their investigation.
Residents in the area are urged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
