A brutal head-on smash in Gills Green near Cranbrook has left three people with life-changing injuries. Kent Police launched a full investigation after the collision on Wednesday night.
The crash happened just after 8pm on the busy Hawkhurst Road, the crucial link between Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells. The road was closed for more than eight hours as emergency crews scrambled to the scene.
A 4×4 Range Rover Sport was involved in the serious collision with a second vehicle. Specialist forensic officers were called in to comb the scene for clues and piece together what went wrong.
Kent Fire and Rescue teams battled to free accident victims trapped in the wreckage using hydraulic cutting tools. Paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service then rushed three seriously hurt people to hospital.
After a tense night, police contractors used low loaders to clear both vehicles by dawn. A full cleanup followed, and the vital Hawkhurst Road was finally reopened just before 4.15am.
Kent Police continue their probe into the cause of the Cranbrook carnage.
