Firefighters were called to a dramatic kitchen blaze in a Gravesend home after neighbours spotted smoke and raised the alarm. The incident occurred on St James’s Avenue, where smoke was seen pouring from a kitchen window.
Upon arrival, crews encountered blackened windows and intense heat. With reports that the house was still occupied, firefighters forced entry and rescued a man from inside the property.
The firefighting team used a main jet hose and a high-pressure jet to combat the fire. Additionally, a large fan was deployed to clear smoke and toxic fumes from the building.
The rescued man was given emergency treatment including CPR and oxygen at the scene. Paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service then took over his care.
Officials have stated that the fire is likely accidental. A full investigation into the cause is currently underway.
