A major quad bike crash has caused the closure of key roads in Kent, including a major road in Herne Bay and a significant stretch of the A299. The incident occurred when a man fell from a quad bike while riding in a group.
Police officers and collision investigators remain at the scene, with the road closures expected to last for several hours. The A229 slip road at Canterbury Road and a large section of the London-bound A229 are currently closed, causing traffic to come to a standstill in the area and on all nearby approaches.
Kent Police confirmed that officers were called at 3.44pm on Tuesday 14 July 2020 following reports of a man falling from a quad bike on Thanet Way near the Herne Bay exit. Emergency services from South East Coast Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex responded promptly to the scene.
The air ambulance landed after the road closure was put in place to assist the injured man, who was then rushed to a hospital in London for treatment. The London-bound carriageway remains closed as investigations into the crash continue.
