Detectives have charged a man with murder after a 47-year-old was found dead in a Margate home. Kent Police responded to a property on Dane Road at 7.10pm on Tuesday 28 July 2020.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

A post mortem examination carried out on Friday 31 July confirmed suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. Following this, the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate launched a murder investigation and arrested a suspect.

Jonathan Cottrell, aged 34, from Athelstan Road, Margate, was charged with murder on Sunday 2 August. The charge was authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Cottrell appeared at Medway Magistrates Court on Monday 3 August and was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to stand trial at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday 5 August.
