A cyclist was knocked down by a car on Sutton Road near Bircholt Road in Maidstone just after 10am on Sunday morning. The Kent, Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance rushed to the scene to provide urgent medical assistance.
The charity-funded aircrew landed in a nearby field on Gore Court Road, close to the new Bellway Bicknor Wood estate. Paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service were already treating the cyclist when the air ambulance doctors arrived.
A Kent Police spokesman confirmed the incident, saying: “Officers were called at around 9.55am to a collision involving a car and a man on a bicycle at the junction of Sutton Road and Bircholt Road, Maidstone. The man on the bike has been taken to a local hospital for treatment. The junction remains closed as officers carry out initial enquiries.”
Commuters are advised to avoid the area while the investigation continues. More updates are expected as police piece together what went wrong.
