Four men tragically lost their lives in a horrific crash in Headcorn, prompting tearful tributes from family and friends at the scene. One relative, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “One of the men was my uncle. I found out early this morning. He was a great man. I am broken and still trying to make sense of what happened.”
Kent Police closed the road for over 12 hours while specialists examined the wreckage. The severely damaged Hilux pickup was lifted onto a low loader just before 1pm on Sunday afternoon. The crash was so severe that it ripped through five sturdy trees, which remain the only visible sign of the incident’s brutality.
Experienced police officers at the scene showed clear signs of being deeply affected by the scale of the crash. Neighbours described being woken by a loud bang and the sound of a vehicle revving. One witness said: “People were crying. The whole road was flooded with blue lights. It looked like the car was speeding. The fog last night was really thick.”
Kent Police were called at 12:54am on Sunday 10 October to Lenham Road, Headcorn, following reports of the crash. Officers and the South East Coast Ambulance Service attended promptly. One man was rushed to a London hospital with life-threatening brain injuries.
The road remains closed at the junction with Baker Lane as the Serious Collision Investigation Unit continues their probe. Kent Police have been approached for an official statement as the investigation is ongoing.
