Emergency teams launched a swift rescue mission early Monday morning following reports of a swimmer struggling near Brighton’s iconic West Pier.
At 8:01 a.m. on 25 November, Shoreham’s All-Weather Lifeboat (ALB) was scrambled, quickly followed by the Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) at 8:25 a.m., with the Coastguard coordinating an urgent search operation.
The lifeboats sped towards the West Pier area, working alongside Coastguard crews. They successfully recovered the distressed swimmer from the chilly waters.
The lifeboat then raced to Brighton Marina, where paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) were standing by to provide immediate medical assistance.
A Sussex Police spokesperson confirmed: “Police were alerted to a man in difficulty in the sea in Hove around 7:52 a.m. on Monday, 25 November. The man was rescued and taken to hospital for treatment.”
SECAmb revealed the swimmer was transported to hospital in a serious condition. A spokesperson said, “We responded after concerns for a person in the sea near Brunswick Terrace, Hove. The Coastguard rescued the individual, who was then handed over to ambulance crews at Brighton Marina.”
Details surrounding what caused the swimmer’s distress remain unclear. Emergency services praised the quick, coordinated efforts of the lifeboat crews, Coastguard, and paramedics in bringing the person to safety.
