Two fire engines rushed to a house fire in Dover where firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames. Fortunately, all residents escaped the fire unharmed.
During the rescue, firefighters saved two cats, one dog, and a guinea pig. Special animal oxygen masks were used to assist the pets with breathing.
Tragically, one cat and several guinea pigs did not survive the blaze. Volunteers from Kent Fire and Rescue Service’s (KFRS) Volunteer Response team offered crucial support to those affected by the incident.
Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) also attended the scene. The fire is believed to have started accidentally when a tumble dryer caught fire in the kitchen.
Fire crews have issued a safety warning to the public regarding tumble dryer use. Their key advice includes: never leaving your dryer running unattended, always following the manufacturer’s instructions, and regularly cleaning out lint filters to prevent build-up.
Residents are urged to stay vigilant and take precautions to keep their homes and pets safe from preventable fires.
