A fire erupted in a tunnel at Holborn Underground Station on the night of April 1, prompting a major emergency response. The blaze was first spotted just after 10:15pm deep within the Covent Garden tunnels beneath High Holborn.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) dispatched multiple crews equipped with breathing apparatus to tackle the fire. Passengers and staff were quickly evacuated from the station, and the surrounding areas were sealed off to ensure safety.
Holborn Station remains closed as firefighters continue to battle the fire underground. Transport for London (TfL) has suspended services on the affected lines and is urging commuters to seek alternative routes and check live updates before travelling.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said, “We received a call about a fire in one of the tunnels at Holborn Underground Station. Crews are currently working to put out the fire and secure the safety of everyone involved. We advise the public to steer clear of the area and follow official instructions.”
Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries so far. Firefighters are continuing to comb the tunnel to ensure no one is trapped inside.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. Authorities will launch a full investigation once the blaze is under control. Nearby roads may face closures and diversions, so the public is advised to stay alert and avoid the area if possible.
