Emergency crews rushed to Pimlico this afternoon after a major gas leak triggered panic among residents and businesses. Dangerous gas levels were detected in a building’s cellar near Rampayne Street, forcing mass evacuations to ensure public safety.
The alarm was raised just after 4pm close to the junction with Lupus Street. London Fire Brigade sources confirmed the gas concentration had reached explosive limits, prompting immediate evacuations to protect residents in the area.
Firefighters from the London Fire Brigade and officers from the Metropolitan Police are currently on-site, cordoning off the danger zone and assisting with the evacuation of nearby buildings. Specialist gas engineers have been called in to isolate the leak and secure the location as quickly as possible.
Residents and local businesses have been urged to avoid the area and follow all emergency instructions issued by authorities. Road closures in Pimlico could cause significant traffic disruptions in the surrounding streets.
