A massive fire has erupted on Wanstead Flats for the second time in just 24 hours. Approximately 70 firefighters and ten fire engines are currently battling the flames.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) reported receiving 37 emergency calls starting at 1:32pm today, 12 August. Firefighters from Leytonstone, Hainault, Woodford, Walthamstow, and nearby stations quickly responded to the scene.
Residents living near Wanstead Flats have been advised to steer clear of the area while crews work to contain the fire. The cause of the blaze remains unknown at this time.
This latest fire follows another serious blaze on Wanstead Flats that occurred yesterday evening, which also required a large emergency response.
A Fire Brigade spokesperson said, “Crews are working hard in challenging conditions to stop the spread of the fire. Please keep doors and windows closed if you live nearby.”
Wanstead Flats is a popular location for walkers and dog owners and is particularly vulnerable to fires during hot and dry weather conditions. Authorities remain on high alert as the fire continues to burn.
