Shock has gripped Stafford after the tragic death of a three-month-old baby boy. A 38-year-old man from Stafford has been arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with the infant’s death.

The baby was admitted to hospital on 12 October 2023 for emergency treatment but sadly passed away eight days later, on 20 October.

Gareth Stark appeared today at North Staffordshire Justice Centre. In addition to the manslaughter charge, he faces allegations of assault and serious child neglect, accused of causing unnecessary suffering to the baby.

Stark remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at Stafford Crown Court on 9 January 2024 for the next hearing in this case.

Staffordshire Police have confirmed that the investigation into this heartbreaking incident is ongoing. A police spokesperson said: “A man has appeared in court after he was charged with manslaughter following the death of a baby.”
