Two people have been arrested over the heartbreaking death of a baby boy in Stoke-on-Trent. Staffordshire Police confirmed that a 26-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man from the area were detained on Tuesday as part of an ongoing murder inquiry.

The tragedy unfolded on August 27, 2024, when emergency services rushed to a home on Sherwin Road, Burslem. Paramedics found the infant boy lifeless at around 9:09am, prompting police to launch a serious investigation.

Initially, the suspects were arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child and released on conditional bail. However, on Tuesday, they were rearrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody for questioning.

“This is a deeply distressing case that has shocked the local community. We are working hard to uncover exactly what happened,” said Detective Inspector Gina Pope, who is leading the inquiry. “We ask the public to avoid speculation on social media out of respect for the family and those involved.”

Specialist officers are supporting the family as the probe continues. Staffordshire Police urge anyone with information to come forward to help bring clarity to this tragic case.
