Hanley’s Potteries Centre went into lockdown on Wednesday afternoon following reports of a suspicious package that led to a rapid and serious police reaction.
At approximately 3:30 PM, Staffordshire Police arrived at the scene, closing the busy shopping centre and initiating a comprehensive search operation.
Emergency measures were promptly implemented to ensure public safety. A 100-metre police cordon was established around the centre, and Town Road was completely closed to both traffic and pedestrians. The entire Potteries Centre was evacuated to protect shoppers and staff.
The elite Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called in by Staffordshire Police to evaluate the suspicious package. Their expertise is essential in determining if the device poses any genuine threat and in safely neutralising it if necessary.
Police emphasised that public safety is their highest priority. Residents and visitors were urged to avoid the area until authorities declare it safe, to follow updates from official police channels, and to remain calm during the disruption.
