A 57-year-old man from Staffordshire, Nicholas McCabe, has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for a series of serious sex offences against girls and women. His abuse spanned from the 1990s through the 2000s, leaving many victims traumatised.
The case only came to light when one brave survivor came forward in 2020. Her courage prompted Staffordshire Police to launch a full-scale investigation. As the inquiry progressed, more victims found the strength to share their experiences.
The evidence gathered was overwhelming. At Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, a jury found McCabe guilty on all 25 charges he faced. These charges included eight counts of rape of a girl under 16, four counts of rape of a woman, eight counts of indecent assault of a girl under 16, three counts of sexual assault on a female aged 13 and over, and two counts of sexual assault on a female.
On Tuesday, 4 February, McCabe was sentenced to 27 years in prison. In addition, he will serve a 12-month extended licence period after his release, ensuring he remains under strict supervision.
This case highlights the importance of victims speaking out and the determination of police to pursue justice.
