Burton residents are on high alert as detectives and local police investigate a series of burglaries targeting homes in the area. The East Staffordshire Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) has warned residents to ensure their properties are securely locked following four break-ins within a fortnight.
The burglars have been stealing high-value items such as jewellery and electronic devices, often leaving victims’ homes in disarray after searching through belongings.
Details of the incidents include:
- Shobnall Street, 27 April: A burglar entered through a rear window after 2pm, stealing jewellery and an electrical item.
- Shobnall Road, Bank Holiday Weekend (1-3 May): An offender gained entry from the rear and took cash and jewellery.
- Shobnall Street, 6 May: An attempted break-in occurred between 9:30am and 4pm, but no entry was gained.
- Mellor Road, Branston, 6 May: Burglars broke in before 5:30pm and stole an electrical item.
A 43-year-old man from Burton was arrested in connection with the burglaries but has since been released under investigation.
Detective Constable Emma Francis commented, “We have made one arrest and the ongoing investigation of these incidents continues. Those breaking in are after high-value products like jewellery and electronics. We’re reviewing CCTV and ask residents to check their home security and share any footage.”
Chief Inspector Clair Langley added, “We get how unsettling burglaries at home can be. Please stay vigilant, report suspicious behaviour, and make sure your doors and windows aren’t left open. Local officers are out on high-visibility patrols to reassure the community and catch those responsible.”
