Just before 3am on Monday, police made a grim discovery at a lay-by on Bridgnorth Road, near Perton, close to Wolverhampton. Officers responded to reports of suspicious activity and found a young woman who had been fatally burned at the scene.

Staffordshire Police revealed that the woman had been set alight, suffering severe burn injuries. They described her as being of slight build, aged somewhere between her late teens and 30s. Forensic teams are now working to identify her.

“It is vital that we identify this young woman as soon as possible,” Staffordshire Police said. “If you believe you may know who she is please get in touch with us.”

Detective Superintendent Tom Chisholm urged anyone who was near Bridgnorth Road between 1am and 3am on Monday to come forward. He believes the victim was driven to the location.

“Did you witness anything? Have dashcam or CCTV footage? Are you aware of any missing women or unusual activity Sunday night into Monday morning?” he asked.

“This was a shocking and dreadful incident. With your help, we’re determined to bring those responsible to justice,” added Detective Superintendent Chisholm.

Police are asking anyone who recognises the victim or has any information or footage related to the area in the early hours of Monday to contact Staffordshire Police.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have promised to release updates as they develop.
