Police in North Staffordshire are urgently seeking information following a sexual assault involving a woman in her 40s early on Sunday morning, 10 December.
The victim left The Foyer nightclub on Hassell Street, Newcastle-under-Lyme, at around 1.30am. She was then approached by two men who persuaded her to enter a taxi. The group left the area at approximately 1.50am.
Officers believe the taxi travelled to an address in Stoke where the woman was sexually assaulted. The incident was reported to police the following day, Monday 11 December.
Since the report, a 56-year-old man and a 31-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent have been arrested on suspicion of rape. Both remain in custody and are being questioned by police.
Detective Inspector Becky Harris said, “We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have vital information. We believe the woman was approached on Hassell Street by two men. One was described as large-built, wearing a black jacket and black beanie.”
She added, “We take all reports of sexual assault extremely seriously. Our priority is supporting survivors and bringing offenders to justice.”
