A 74-year-old pensioner was arrested after a man was stabbed inside a home on Station Road, Devizes, last Wednesday evening.
Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 5.30pm following reports of the violent attack.
Wiltshire Police confirmed the victim sustained serious wounds, though they are not life-threatening.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the normally peaceful Devizes community.
The elderly suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
After questioning, he was released on conditional bail while police carry on with their enquiries.
