A Wiltshire police officer was rushed to hospital after being deliberately struck by a car while on duty late last night.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Conscience Lane. The officer, who was patrolling in a marked police car, noticed a vehicle parked suspiciously in a nearby field.
As the officer approached to investigate and engage with the vehicle’s occupants, the situation quickly escalated. Instead of cooperating, the driver accelerated and intentionally collided with the officer’s vehicle, causing serious injury.
The injured officer was taken to hospital for treatment. They have since been discharged and are expected to make a full recovery at home.
Duty Superintendent Conway Duncan described the incident as “significant,” condemning the driver for intentionally harming an officer who was simply performing their duties.
Wiltshire Police have launched an urgent appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
The deliberate attack on a police officer highlights the dangers faced by those protecting the public. Authorities are determined to bring the offender to justice and are urging anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.
