The M4 motorway is currently shut down in both directions in Wiltshire after a serious crash involving a car and a lorry. The incident has caused major disruption on the westbound lanes between Junction 14 (Hungerford) and Junction 15 (Swindon), as well as on the eastbound lanes from Junction 15 to Junction 13 (Newbury).
Emergency services, including Wiltshire Police and Wiltshire Air Ambulance, have rushed to the scene to provide assistance. National Highways Traffic Officers are actively managing the congested roads to help ease traffic flow.
Drivers are being warned to expect lengthy delays and are advised to plan alternative routes to avoid the affected sections of the motorway.
Westbound Detours: Motorists should exit the M4 at Junction 14. At the roundabout, take the first exit onto the A338. Continue on the A338 for 3 miles to the A4 mini roundabout, then turn right towards Hungerford. At the next roundabout, take the second exit into Charnham Park, then turn right onto the B4192. Follow the B4192 through Aldbourne for 13 miles to the A419 roundabout. Take the first exit onto the A419 to rejoin the M4 at Junction 15.
Eastbound Diversions: Leave the M4 at Junction 15 and take the first exit at the roundabout onto the A419. At the next roundabout, take the fourth exit onto the B4192. Drive 13 miles via Aldbourne, then turn left at the junction with Charnham Park onto the A4 roundabout. Follow the ‘hollow circle’ diversion signs to the A34 interchange. Use the second exit at the A34 roundabout to reach M4 Junction 13 and rejoin the motorway eastbound.
Travel Advice: Motorists are urged to allow extra journey time and consider alternative routes where possible. Authorities will provide updates as the situation develops.
