A confident driver behind the wheel of a BMW 118ES received a rude awakening when Wiltshire’s Roads Policing Unit (RPU) stopped him in Trowbridge. The motorist was found to be running an illegal rear tyre, a serious safety violation he had not noticed.
Despite the offence, the driver remained unfazed and cheekily told officers he was “doing better in life” than they were. However, his bravado did not prevent police from issuing the necessary paperwork for the illegal tyre offence.
Adding a touch of irony to the stop, officers apologised for the noise from their own M340i patrol car, subtly highlighting the BMW’s performance.
Wiltshire Police used the incident as a warning to all drivers, especially those who consider themselves motor experts. Illegal tyres pose a hidden danger by affecting a vehicle’s handling and braking, increasing the risk of accidents. Drivers are urged to:
- Check their tyres regularly
- Ensure tyres meet legal standards
- Avoid costly penalties and stay safe on the roads
Wiltshire Police emphasised their commitment to cracking down on unroadworthy vehicles across the county, reinforcing that no one is above the law when it comes to road safety.
