Ethan Baily, 20, of Hill Rise, Chippenham, was sentenced to four years behind bars at Swindon Crown Court on Friday, February 14. This sentencing follows his conviction last October for raping a 14-year-old girl in October 2021.
At the time of the attack, Baily was 17 years old. He assaulted the young victim on a footpath by the golf course leading to Monkton Park during a night out. Following the conviction, Baily has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and issued a lifetime restraining order that prohibits any contact with the victim.
Detective Constable Sam Long described the attack as “cowardly and despicable.” He said, “This was a cowardly and despicable act committed against a young, vulnerable teenage girl. She was violated in the worst possible way and was unable to defend herself.”
Detective Long praised the victim’s bravery, stating, “The victim showed enormous courage and resilience that led to Ethan Baily’s unanimous conviction by the jury. Baily showed no remorse during the court case.”
He added, “Today’s sentence should send a strong message: sexual crimes will not be tolerated. Victims will be supported, and offenders will be brought to justice.”
Detective Long urged victims of sexual abuse to come forward, saying, “If you’re a victim of sexual abuse, please report it. We’re here to help and will make sure perpetrators face the courts.”
