A tense incident occurred in Swindon on the evening of Thursday, March 6. At around 9.30pm, a woman crossing from Princess Street to Fleming Way was followed by a 27-year-old man from Swindon.
The suspect attempted to engage the woman in conversation by mentioning housing and even invited her to his home. The situation escalated near the Leonardo Hotel when the man reportedly grabbed the woman just as a number 5 bus arrived.
Passengers on the bus quickly stepped off to assist the woman, helping to prevent the situation from worsening.
Wiltshire Police have arrested the man on suspicion of attempted kidnap and a sexual offence. He has since been released on conditional bail while investigations continue.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said, “Several people who got off that number 5 bus and came to the victim’s aid are urged to get in touch. Their information could be vital to cracking this case.”
