A major multi-vehicle crash on the A303 Bypass near Cholderton in Wiltshire has brought traffic to a standstill in both directions. The collision occurred at around 5.30pm on Friday, resulting in several injuries.
Emergency services responded quickly to the scene just east of Amesbury. Three air ambulances were dispatched, including teams from Wiltshire and Bath, Hampshire and Isle of Wight, and Dorset and Somerset. Two victims were airlifted to Southampton General Hospital’s Major Trauma Centre for urgent medical treatment.
The A303 remains closed from Parkhouse Corner to the Countess roundabout near Amesbury due to the severity of the crash. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and follow the diversions in place:
Westbound traffic should exit at Parkhouse Corner and take the A338 towards Salisbury. Eastbound drivers are advised to take the third exit at the roundabout heading towards Amesbury.
Wiltshire Police have launched a full forensic collision investigation into the incident. The road closure is expected to remain in effect until midday on Saturday, 29 March. A police spokesperson said, “We are working alongside emergency services to manage the situation and ensure the safety of those involved. The road will remain closed while collision investigators carry out their work.”
