John Worrall, 35, with no fixed address, has been sentenced to 28 months in prison following a brutal stabbing in Amesbury last year. The violent attack left the victim seriously injured inside his own home.
The chilling incident took place on January 25, 2024, at approximately 6:30pm. The victim opened his door at Sandell Place when Worrall struck him with a chisel, causing a severe 4cm slash to the victim’s arm.
Worrall pleaded guilty to charges of grievous bodily harm and carrying an offensive weapon. On April 1, he was sentenced at Winchester Crown Court to 28 months behind bars. Additionally, he received a restraining order effective until 2030 and was fined £228.
The victim spoke out about the ongoing trauma caused by the attack, stating, “It is now over a year on from the attack, but I still feel emotionally traumatised and have lasting physical damage to my arm. The scar around my left wrist and forearm is permanent. Despite five physio sessions, my tendon damage means I can’t fully move my wrist. Making a fist is a struggle and my fingers stiffen and lock often. I feel daily pain in my wrist and forearm.”
Acting Detective Inspector David Hambly condemned the violent assault, describing it as “disgusting.” He commended the victim and witnesses for their bravery in assisting the police to bring Worrall to justice.
“This kind of violence has no place in our communities. We will prosecute offenders to the fullest extent of the law,” Hambly added.
