Six teenage boys have been charged with grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent after a savage assault outside a Swindon school last year, Wiltshire Police have confirmed.
The violent incident took place on 12 March 2024 outside St Joseph’s Catholic College. The victim, who was 14 at the time and is now 15, suffered significant injuries in the shocking attack.
The suspects, aged between 13 and 17, face charges under Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act, which is one of the toughest assault laws in the UK. Additionally, two of the boys, aged 13 and 17, are charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
All six have been granted bail and are scheduled to appear at Swindon Youth Court on 30 April 2025.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said, “This was a deeply concerning incident that left a young boy with serious injuries. We understand the impact such violence has on the community and particularly on young people and families in the area. We have carried out a thorough investigation, and the charges brought today reflect the gravity of the offence.”
St Joseph’s Catholic College has not issued a formal statement but is understood to be supporting both the victim and the police during the ongoing investigation. The attack has caused distress among local parents and pupils.
The case will proceed through the youth justice system, and the identities of those involved remain protected due to their ages under UK law.
