A violent assault on a busy street in Devizes last summer has resulted in Kubilay Bostanli, aged 27, being locked up under a hospital order. He was convicted of attempted murder and assaulting a police officer following the brutal attack.
The attack occurred at 12:30pm on 29 June 2024. Bostanli launched a savage assault on a man in his 20s, beginning inside a local butcher’s shop on Sidmouth Street before chasing the victim onto Estcourt Street. The victim sustained two stab wounds to the neck along with serious facial and ear injuries.
When police arrived at the scene, Bostanli resisted arrest violently, grabbing a female officer by the hair during the struggle.
Thanks to the quick actions of three bystanders who administered first aid and ensured rapid hospital treatment, the victim survived the brutal attack.
Detective Constable Jo Newbery of the CID said, “This was a sustained and terrifying attack during which the victim fought for his life. Kubilay Bostanli used extreme violence against his victim, witnessed by a large number of people given the time of day and location. I’d like to thank the victim for his bravery and the members of the public who helped save his life.”
PC Crabbe, the responding officer who faced Bostanli’s violent resistance, received a bravery commendation from the former High Sheriff and has been nominated for a Police Bravery Award. Chief Superintendent Guy Elkins praised her courage, stating, “Without her bravery, Bostanli’s victim would almost certainly not be alive today.”
