Wiltshire Police has confirmed that PC Gabriella Gilchrist was dismissed without notice after a five-day misconduct hearing held at Wiltshire Police Headquarters.
The hearing, chaired by John Derryman, found that Gilchrist breached multiple professional standards, including Orders and Instructions, Honesty and Integrity, and Discreditable Conduct.
The panel upheld six serious allegations against Gilchrist. As a result, she was instantly dismissed without notice and placed on the national barred list, preventing her from holding any future policing roles.
The misconduct related to Gilchrist’s inappropriate relationship with an individual she was instructed to avoid. She failed to register this contact and attempted to persuade the person to break bail conditions that were put in place for her protection.
Deputy Chief Constable Mark Cooper commented on the case, stating, “PC Gabriella Gilchrist has been found to have been associating with someone it was entirely inappropriate to have contact with. She ignored direct orders, compromised her integrity, and interfered with legal protections placed for her safety. Her behaviour falls far below the public’s expectations of honesty and integrity, even when off duty.
We are determined to root out any wrongdoing to preserve trust and confidence within our communities.”
Under the Police Conduct Regulations 2020, Gilchrist has 10 working days to appeal the decision.
Wiltshire Police emphasised that maintaining public trust remains their highest priority and that misconduct and dishonesty will not be tolerated.
