The A12 southbound between junctions 17 and 16 near Chelmsford has been officially closed due to severe flooding affecting the road.

Emergency services, including Essex Police, are currently on the scene working to manage the situation and address the flooding.

Highways England has deployed teams to the area to help manage the flooding and clear the water from the road. Drivers are advised to expect significant delays and to allow extra travel time when planning their journeys.

To help keep traffic moving, Essex Police have established a diversion route using local roads. Motorists are urged to follow the clearly signed detours and to drive safely while travelling in the affected area.
