A serving Metropolitan Police officer, PC Paul Bewsey, has been charged with assaulting a 14-year-old boy during an off-duty incident in Essex.
PC Bewsey, who is part of the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, was not on duty when the altercation occurred.
The incident took place on April 21 on Hanging Hill Lane in Brentwood, Essex. Essex Police reported that Bewsey and the teenager became involved in a fight which escalated into an assault.
Details surrounding the cause of the argument and the extent of the victim’s injuries have not been disclosed.
On October 21, PC Bewsey was formally charged in connection with the incident. He is scheduled to appear at Basildon Magistrates Court on November 24.
In the meantime, PC Bewsey has been placed on restricted duty. The Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been notified and is closely monitoring the case.
