Twelve dangerous criminals from the UK, all men, are currently on the run and believed to be hiding in Spain. They are wanted for serious offences including murder, large-scale drug trafficking, and supplying firearms and ammunition.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) has launched a new campaign in partnership with CrimeStoppers, Spanish police, and UK law enforcement agencies to track down these fugitives. This initiative follows the success of Operation Captura, which resulted in the arrest of 86 offenders.
Spain is a popular destination for British ex-pats, making it a key location for pursuing UK wanted criminals. The cooperation between British and Spanish law enforcement is strong and effective.
“Spain is not a safe haven,” said Steve Rodhouse, NCA Director General of Operations. “We work together every day to protect the public. Criminals know we never give up and we’re never far behind them.”
At the campaign launch event in Madrid, Steve Rodhouse was joined by Spain’s Security Minister Rafael Pérez Ruiz, British Ambassador Hugh Elliott, and CrimeStoppers CEO Mark Hallas.
The most wanted fugitives include:
- Nana Oppong, 41 – Wanted by Essex Police for the 2020 drive-by murder of Robert Powell, who was shot eight times.
- Jack Mayle, 30 – Known for his heavily tattooed neck and ‘Croydon’ ink, Mayle is suspected of running a south London drugs line supplying MDMA and other Class A substances. He is armed and may have tried to change his appearance.
- Callum Halpin, 27 – Hunted by Greater Manchester Police for the 2018 murder of drug dealer Luke Graham and the attempted murder of another man.
- Asim Naveed, 29 and Calvin Parris, 32 – Wanted by South Wales Police over trafficking 46 kilos of cocaine worth £8 million and selling drugs in Cardiff.
- James ‘Jamie’ Stevenson, 56 – Wanted by the National Crime Agency and Police Scotland following the seizure of a tonne of cocaine and 28 million ‘street Valium’ tablets, plus suspected arson attacks in Scotland.
CrimeStoppers founder Lord Ashcroft urged the public to come forward with any information. “We guarantee complete anonymity to anyone who helps us find these dangerous criminals,” he said. “Please do the right thing and pass on what you know.”
UK Ambassador to Spain Hugh Elliott praised the cooperation between the two countries. “We stand united against crime, sharing expertise and values to keep our citizens safe,” he said. “Thanks to ongoing collaboration and public support, this campaign can succeed.”
Spain’s Security Minister Rafael Pérez Ruiz added: “This campaign strengthens our joint efforts to make Spain a hostile environment for criminals.”
