Police have charged a man with murder in connection with the disappearance of Madison Wright, a 30-year-old woman from Basildon who went missing on the morning of Friday, July 22.

The Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate launched an urgent investigation into Madison’s disappearance and made an arrest last Friday.

Garry Bennett, aged 36, from Caister Drive, Pitsea, now faces a murder charge. He is scheduled to appear at Southend Magistrates Court on Monday, August 1, 2022.

On Saturday, July 30, a body was discovered at Wat Tyler Country Park. Authorities have not yet formally identified the victim but have informed Madison’s family, who are receiving support from specialist detectives.

The park and the nearby recycling centre remain closed as police continue their inquiries.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and any information related to Madison or her black Vauxhall Astra, registration EU13 JVW, seen between 8:30 a.m. on July 22 and July 26.

Police stated, “If you have any information, CCTV, dashcam, or footage, please contact us.”
