Emergency services responded to a serious collision at a Burnley roundabout on December 11, 2020, where a Lexus vehicle struck two pedestrians. The incident occurred at approximately 5.05pm at the junction of Casterton Avenue, Eastern Avenue, and Briercliffe Road.
Janet Collinge, aged 72, was seriously injured in the crash and was initially taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment. Although she was discharged weeks later, she sadly passed away at her home in Burnley on Wednesday, February 3.
The driver of the Lexus, a man in his 50s, was uninjured and is cooperating fully with police investigations.
Sergeant Mick Belfield of the Lancashire Police TacOps Unit commented, “Our thoughts are with Mrs Collinge’s family at this incredibly difficult time. An investigation has been launched into the full circumstances of the collision and enquiries are ongoing.”
Janet’s family paid a heartfelt tribute to her, describing her as a proud Burnley native and a devoted family woman. “She was never happier than when surrounded by her husband David, children Lee, Julie, and Kelly, her eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren,” the family said.
They added, “Janet was well-loved, sociable, and known for her kindness to friends and strangers alike. She enjoyed crafting and travelling around the UK in her caravan. Sadly, Janet never recovered from the accident. She was taken from us on February 3. We will celebrate her life but miss her terribly.”
