An arson investigation is underway after two yob youths set fire to a £150,000 cabin cruiser on the River Medway in Maidstone just before midnight on Friday.
The 9.5-metre boat, built by Marine Projects in 2002, went up in flames fast. Four fire crews and a water rescue boat raced to the scene on Hart Street as the fire ripped through the luxury cruiser.
Firefighters feared the vessel might have been occupied and there was a real danger of explosion from fuel tanks. They searched the boat quickly while tackling the inferno with foam and hose reels.
Witnesses reported seeing two youths on pushbikes moments before the blaze started, setting the boat alight deliberately. Kent Fire and Rescue confirmed a joint probe with Kent Police is now underway to find the culprits.
