A burglary near Maidstone was caught live on the homeowner’s mobile phone, capturing both footage and the sound of a window smashing. Jordan Boguslawski, 39, was unaware he was being watched as he raided an empty house in Sandway last year. He has now been sentenced to nearly four years in prison.
On 19 September 2019, while the victim was away, her security system sent an alert to her phone. The images showed Boguslawski knocking on the front door before moving to the back of the property. He ripped a camera from the wall, but the device continued recording audio, allowing the victim to hear him smashing a kitchen window to gain entry.
Once inside, Boguslawski ransacked the house, stealing a safe, passports, jewellery, electronics, and over £2,500 in cash.
Kent Police traced a suspicious hire car seen near the scene back to Boguslawski. Officers stopped the vehicle in Surrey on 21 September and recovered stolen items from the Sandway burglary, along with the clothes Boguslawski had worn during the raid. They also found goods linked to another burglary he committed the same day in Hemel Hempstead.
Boguslawski, from Ilford, Essex, faced charges for two burglaries and pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court. He was also connected to four other break-ins, including three in Surrey. On 6 March 2020, he was sentenced to three years and eleven months in prison.
Detective Constable Kate Humpheryes of West Kent CID said, “Boguslawski is a prolific thief who would have continued causing misery if caught later. Thanks to security cameras, we quickly identified and convicted him. We urge residents and businesses to stay vigilant, double lock doors and windows, and maintain CCTV to capture crystal-clear footage.”
