The M2 motorway is currently closed westbound from Junction 6 to Junction 5 following a major collision that occurred just after 8.30pm on Saturday near Faversham.

Kent Police are leading the emergency response, with all emergency services, including the air ambulance, called to assist at the scene. Hundreds of drivers are caught in long queues in both northbound and southbound directions as the closure disrupts traffic on this busy route.

Highways England has deployed teams to the site to clear the wreckage and work towards restoring normal traffic flow as soon as possible. At present, no delays have been reported approaching the closure point, but motorists are advised to expect significant disruption in the area.

London-bound vehicles are instructed to leave the M2 at Junction 6 and proceed south on the A251 towards the A252 in Challock. From there, drivers should turn west at the A252 roundabout towards Charing and join the A20. Following the A20 westbound to Maidstone, motorists can then join the M20 at Junction 8 heading towards London. To rejoin the M2, drivers should exit at Junction 7 and take the northbound A249 towards M2 Junction 5.

Authorities urge all drivers to follow the solid square diversion signs to avoid becoming stuck in traffic gridlock caused by the closure.
